COMMON WEALTH / MUTUAL FUNDS

Know the risk.
Then choose the fund.

There is no universally best mutual fund. There are different kinds of funds, different kinds of risk, and different people. Your money should be matched to your life—not the other way round.

01 / UNDERSTANDING RISK

Meet the riskometer.

The six risk labels used for Indian mutual fund schemes run from Low to Very High. Select a label to see what it means. This interactive illustration is not a live rating of any scheme.

RISKOMETER MEETS KYP

A fund has a risk level.
You have a life.

The riskometer describes a scheme. KYP—Know Your Personality—helps us understand your capacity and willingness to take risk, your goals, financial commitments and how soon you may need the money.

Neither alone tells the full story. KYC and other applicable assessments remain necessary.

02 / FUND FAMILIES

Different funds do different jobs.

Explore five broad groups in SEBI’s February 2026 categorisation framework. The examples below are educational, not personalised recommendations.

01 / EQUITY

Ownership in businesses.

Equity funds invest mainly in shares. They can participate in long-term business growth, but prices may fall sharply—including over periods of several years.

Explore: large-cap, mid-cap, small-cap, flexi-cap, multi-cap, sectoral/thematic and ELSS.

Categories are not ordered by safety. Two schemes in the same broad family can have very different risks. Refer to the latest SEBI circulars and scheme documents for formal classifications.

03 / WAYS TO INVEST

Two ways in. Neither is magic.

01 / SIP

Invest regularly.

A Systematic Investment Plan invests a chosen amount at set intervals. It can build consistency and reduce the pressure to pick a single entry date. It does not guarantee a profit or prevent losses.

02 / LUMPSUM

Invest an amount at once.

A one-time investment puts money to work immediately. The appropriate timing and asset mix depend on your liquidity needs, goals and ability to withstand losses.

04 / ASSET ALLOCATION

Not every rupee
has the same job.

01

Money you need soon

Liquidity and the risk of loss matter more when a payment is approaching.

02

Money for later

Longer horizons may allow different risks, but never make losses impossible.

03

Money that protects choices

Emergency reserves and appropriate insurance are distinct from investment returns.

05 / QUESTIONS WE HEAR

Plain answers, without the jargon.

Does higher risk mean higher returns?

No. Higher risk means a wider possibility of outcomes, including greater losses. It is not a promise of better returns.

Can a debt fund lose money?

Yes. Debt funds can be affected by interest-rate movements, defaults, liquidity and other factors.

Does an SIP remove market risk?

No. SIP describes how you invest, not the safety of the fund you choose.

Can the riskometer change?

Yes. A scheme's riskometer can change as its portfolio and risk characteristics change. Review the latest disclosures.

How does KYP fit in?

KYP means understanding your risk tolerance, financial position, commitments and dreams before discussing suitable product categories. It complements—not replaces—KYC and applicable regulatory requirements.
